Sickle Cell
Comprehensive Sickle Cell Care at
Southern Specialty is there.
Southern Specialty Clinic is home to the Comprehensive Lifespan Sickle Cell Center and is a member of the National Alliance of Sickle Cell Centers (https://sicklecellcenters.org/).
We believe in delivering high quality comprehensive sickle cell care to improve patient quality of life, health outcomes, and advance the science and treatment of sickle cell disease through research.
Almost 100,000 Americans have sickle cell disease, and there is a significant population of sickle cell patients in the state of Mississippi, although the exact number is not known.
Given recent estimates of sickle cell disease being present in 1 of every 365 African Americans, and the fact that 37.5% of Mississippi’s estimated 2.98 million population is African American, the estimated number of patients with sickle cell disease in Mississippi is roughly 3,000.
Our clinic is comprised of nurses, pharmacists, a social worker, and research study personnel dedicated to the treatment and care of patients with sickle cell disease – we want to make every sickle cell warrior’s life better and support them in any way we can!
